This client had several designers out and had almost pulled the trigger on 2 prior designs but her father happened to be a building inspector and one or two out of place items from each prior design had kept them from feeling comfortable moving forward. I came up with the idea to create a multi level living space that fused the back yard together with a new elevated deck and finally leading to a stone patio with a fire pit and area for dining and all the pieces fell in place. We kept the deck at 29″ from grade (30″ requires a permit) so we didn’t even need to pull a permit!

This client came to me with a challenging idea: Place the biggest, most expensive Rainbow playset you can buy on a 45 degree angle.

I thought this sounded interesting and the other contractors they had spoken to came up with some strange ideas… I put the software to work and we came up with an incredible design that ended up integrating a paver walkway leading to a circle paver patio, a paver patio with a raised stone firepit, a lot of retaining walls, some steps and a small stream/waterfall. Did I mention 30 tons of pea gravel??? We had fire water and a backyard playground that will provide years of incredible memories.

When I arrived to quote this project, the small deck you still see was 4 times the size and covered most of what is now patio.

There was a hot tub and tons of jagged trap rock. We dug it all out and put this beauty in place. We also removed the old concrete sidewalk in the front yard and replaced it with matching pavers. The step was in good structural condition so we were able to overlay matching pavers over the existing concrete. Note that in these photos, the deck steps had not yet been built.

This project in Eagan is just a nice little backyard patio area that I thought turned out really nice. The seat walls are made of Willow Creek’s Ledgestone block, and the patio is laid with Weathered Lakeshore blend pavers and a tan border.
